Chickenhawk

I'm sure that Cheney et. al. had legitimate reasons for not serving, but when a 19 year old chickenhawk who leads the local Young Republicans gets badgered to join the military and can't even come up with a reason why he hasn't, well, I just have to laugh.... and you will too! Check out this post and the slew of comments he got from it. It gets a little raunchy, but it is good for a laugh.

This has been going on for two weeks and the kid hasn't figured out what to say in response yet. I almost feel sorry for him.... almost.

  • Went to the link where I posted the following:

It's comforting to know that liberals still haven’t elevated their arguments above the ones that can be found on bumper stickers and haven’t bothered to improve their diction from the 7th grade. All emotion and no substance.

  • Whew! That's a lot of comments. Like you, I almost felt sorry for poor Geoff. Maybe it's to his credit that he didn't answer these people, or get his fellow wingnuts to come pouring in. I've commented at several rightwing pro-war sites, telling the author he could be more effective by enlisting than by just sitting at his keyboard. The usual result is that I get banned and/or called names I haven't heard since boot camp.

  • For me... it's comforting to know that coservatives still practice moral and patriotic relativism with a gusto that liberals can't hope to match.

This kid is getting flamed right down to his shorts, and he deserves it.

  • HERE IS THE COMMENT I LEFT FOR THAT MORON, THE YOUNG CONSERVATIVE, GOEFF SCHMUCK.

This is from a veteran of Korea, not the war, peacetime Korea, but I spent many a cold, dark night on guard duty out on those hills below the DMZ.

I have no respect for a chickenhawk. And kid, YOU are a chickenhawk. Like that creep Cheney.

Let us all know via your phony blog, when you plan to enlist. You believe in this crappy stupid war? Then put your body on the line. Get your ass to a recruiting station. Now. Otherwise you are just a big fat bag of wind. Like your "president".

Your type makes me barf. You write, "This war is a fight we can and will win, so long as we maintain the will to win it." Then go help win it, chickenhawk. Go help win it. Or shut the hell up.

From a veteran. A real American. A patriotic American, who protected weenies like you on the front line in the early 1960s, and you can go straight to hell.

DO YOU THINK I WAS A BIT TOO INDIRECT AND RESERVED IN MY REMARKS?

So, this kid deserves to get flamed for stating an opinion on his own blog? That’s down right "liberal" of you kvatch.

I love it when Lefties show their true colors.

    Thanks kvatch

I’m so glad you linked to this poor kid's blog. The open minded constructive criticisms of the left that he has been receiving are down right illuminating.

So startling that an "educator" would call someone stating an opinion a "little bastard".

I hope you are taking a good look at this.

Are you going to belittle me also because I support the war in Iraq and didn’t serve in the military?

By your logic shouldn’t the right to express an anti- war sentiment also be voiced only by veterans?

  • Arch,

I don't even know where to start. I'm sure a lot of the comments are from people who would consider themselves conservatives. Since when did being conservative mean you have to support every war no matter how illegal or unjustified it is?

Yea, those liberals (like Kvatch) sure showed their true colors: consistency. This leads us to your last point which is probably the most illogical thing you have ever posted here...

By your logic shouldn’t the right to express an anti- war sentiment also be voiced only by veterans?

Absolutely not. I will speak only for myself, but it is clear to me that expressing anti-war sentiment is consistent with my not serving in the military. Conversely, had I openly supported the war, I would be required to do my part one way or another.

Finally, I have never chastized you for not going into the military but I happen to know about your flirt with military experience. Let's just say, "I understand."

    Tom,

It is pretty funny how the right (including Arch and Hugh Hewitt) think the left has a monopoly on name calling. I have been called some pretty obscene things for just pointing out small inconsistencies on some milblogs.

    Kvatch,

I thought we were supposed to be the reletavists? I'm confused now :). Yea, he deserves it if he can't even come up with a response.

    RBE,

Yea, what does the kid describe himself as? "FIERCELY Patriotic." (emphasis original). O.K. kid, show us some of that ferocity, sign up or shut up. Chickenhalk complacency is at the height of hypocricy.

  • Newsguy,

Of all the people who commented on the site, it is people like you who deserve the largest room for maneuvering. It really must burn your hide to see these kids wrapping themselves in the flag and calling others to fight without doing anything themselves when they seem perfectly able to do so.

I'd say you were pretty direct. It must be hard to pull punches from your vantange.

How are you certain of that?

So you support newsguys accretion that you can only support the war if you have served in the military?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:18 PM

  • Arch,

Why should I answer your questions when you don't answer mine?

I'll answer the second question as the first one is rhetorical at best.

    Newsguy has his own opinions.

I think if you are going to call yourself "fiercly patriotic", oh I'm sorry, "FIERCELY patriotic" and dedicate a website to what you perceive as your concervative values which includes supporting this war, and you are of military age but decline to serve, then you are a hypocrit.

  • So, this kid deserves to get flamed for stating an opinion on his own blog? That’s down right "liberal" of you kvatch.

Arch...oh that's right. I forgot that having a blog automatically endows you with the wisdom of the gods and makes you immune to criticism as well.

As for this inane comment -

Are you going to belittle me also because I support the war in Iraq and didn’t serve in the military?

Maybe, tell us your age, and we'll see.

  • I think it's pretty ludicrous that the right-wingers are criticizing the commenters for being mean or using impolite language! Have you ever taken a look at right-wing blogs? They're full of the most vile, profane, racist, bigoted, hateful language I have ever come across. EVER. If you want to sample them, some of them are actually listed on "Bloggers for Inclusive Debate" which I find HILARIOUS.

By Blogger Anne Rettenberg LCSW, at 4:33 AM

  • Exactly.

You and I have both taken some pretty serious abuse over at "bored soldier" just for pointing out facts.

I can't figure out why they think liberals have a monopoly on vulgarity and rudeness.

It must be some kind of sickness.
