Drudge Trumps Debate


McCain surges.



Giuliani fades.


Matt Drudge is now officially more influential than a nationally televised debate.

I am aghast.

  • Thats scary. Drudge is an opinionated uneducated nut. He has a syndicated radio show which I tune out as soon as I hear his voice. He's just ignorant. Such is the state of the media that this guy gets on the national airwaves.

    Shades of Father Coughlin. Except in those days there was only one Father Coughlin.

    Now we have Drudge, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Michael Savage, Ollie North and that Watergate criminal with the goofy mustache, can't remember his name. That's the "liberal media."

    The Drudge website is a collection of news items from a range of news sources. He's not the news gatherer, and he doesn't edit content. At most, he chooses the stories to include on his website.

    Based on the popularity of his site, I'd say he's tapped a vein of readers who think he makes good choices. Meanwhile, reading some of the entries on the Drudge site does not stop the readers from obtaining news from other sources.

    Perhaps other news venues should study Drudge's strategy and adapt it to their audiences.

    As for the debates, well, at this point, they are more than silly. They are non-events that will not deprive those of us who skipped them of anything important.
