Jefferson: Not Guilty?
Rep. William Jefferson has pleaded not guilty to over a dozen felony charges that boil down to one simple thing: corruption.
Now, I'm one to consider people innocent until proven guilty, but when it comes to politicians, I usually write them off upon indictment, with few exceptions. This is not one of the exceptions. I think in this case, the shear magnitude of the charges tells me that he has to be guilty. Oh, and then of course there is the $90,000 in cash in the freezer. I mean, seriously, who in their right mind could accept any explanation for that?
Jefferson proclaims his innocence in a way that makes him sound guilty.
This is not who we are. This is not who I am. This is not what I have done.
This? Not these charges are false, but "this is not what I have done"? If there is a this, doesn't that mean that it is? If "this" is not what I have done, then who did it? Did someone plant that money in your freezer Mr. Jefferson?
If the man had any honor (which obviously he doesn't) he would keep his mouth shut and take his punishment like a man. Instead we get this...
They can attempt to break one, psychologically and financially . . . No matter what, the truth will always come to light.
Let's hope.

I, too, have difficulty believing politicians are innocent until proven guilty. I try, but it seems like for most of them the proof has to be substantial before the crimes are taken seriously. You don't go to trial on accusations, you go to trial on proof. And if the proof isn't strong enough politicians generally have enough resources to weasel out of the process long before trial, whether they're innocent or not.
Hopefully justice is served.

It's not just the money recovered, they have tape of him soliciting and taking the bribe, and the $90,000 was from the marked $100,000 that was the bribe. I think he's counting on an 'OJ' jury but he certainly appears guilty as sin. Good that you noticed the non denial denial in his worthless press conference.

I found a little something about him that had nothing to do with the bribe money last night, (http://newsbusters.org/node/13333). If he was anti-gun why did he have several rifles and shotguns in his home? Maybe someone else put them there (?). Maybe it's OK for him to own firearms but it's not OK for you to own them because he is so much more important than you. Maybe we should not believe a thing he says.
God Bless America, God Save The Republic.

Jefferson has to go. We need to get rid of these corrupt politicians.
In response to David, it's common for politicians and other VIPs to want strict laws for everyone else but not for themselves. Banning guns but still owning one yourself, passing strict drug laws for other people's children but pulling some strings to get your own child out of a drug bust -- it's all typical.

I have nothing to add to this thread. The people have spoken.
